Atancia (The Durand Duology, #1)

Atancia (The Durand Duology, #1) - Wren Figueiro I've read many a paranormal romance before, and I have to say, Atancia is a refreshing and original take on the word "paranormal". Atty, and the majority of the characters she interacts with through the novel, are part of a lineage known as "The Durand". I enjoyed how Ben (Atty's romantic interest) explained their race - as a type of vampiric energy shifters. Instead of drinking blood, the Durand can simply transfer someone's energy to themselves.

I thought Figueiro did a great job with world-building and characters. Atty's romance with Ben was very natural and believable, without ever feeling rushed. The overall pacing of the novel, I found at times to be slower than I would have liked. However, the last third of the book really began to zip by until I was racing through the last few chapters. I look forward to the second novel in this series!
