This book drew me in right away. The majority of the characters are children, their parents having been already lost to the an increasingly aware "virus" known as "the pox". Jackie, the chief of her gang, is one of extremely few females left on the planet. So not only does she have to grow up in a post-apocalyptic world which would be bad enough, but she also has to deal with the onslaught of puberty and everything that brings. She's beginning to find some of the older boys in her gang attractive and trying to cope with those feelings as well as outrun all the males from other gangs who would lock her up to be part of a harem. She's trying to keep her and her "children" alive but things keep getting in the way.Bait has a lot of action, is well-written, and I can't wait to see how book 2 plays out!
